The Cookie Diet Review – Is It For You? by Vienna Miller
Wondering about The Cookie Diet? Chances are you’ve heard rumblings in the diet world about this funny diet. Eat cookies to lose weight? Is it possible? Or is it too good to be true?
While there are a number of ‘cookie type diets’ out there, the main one that seems to have had the most legitimate success is Dr Sanford Siegals cookie diet.
Dr Siegal originally developed his diet in 1975 to help some of his patients lose weight. He came up with a very specific, unique cookie recipe that included a special amino-acid protein blend. This protein added into the cookies helps to curb hunger and keep you full.
So does it work?
Well, it seems to work pretty well. Dr Siegal has claimed to help over 500,000 people lose weight with his diet. And when you really look at it, you can see why.
There are 2 main reasons that diets don’t work:
#1) You Get Hungry (and break your diet)
#2) You Feel Deprived Eating Food That Tastes Bland and Boring (and break your diet)
The Cookie Diet by Dr Siegal solves both of these problems – which is probably why it’s so popular.
With the hunger-controlling protein formula, the cookies help curb hunger and keep you feeling fuller longer. So hunger doesn’t rear it’s ugly head and you aren’t tempted to break your diet.
They also taste good – and who doesn’t love cookies? So you feel like you’re ‘cheating’ and eating cookies all day. There’s no sense of deprivation so you don’t end up breaking your diet.
How it Works:
With Dr Siegals plan you eat up to 6 cookies per day (i.e. 3 for breakfast and 3 for lunch). Then follow this with a sensible dinner.
If you follow the instructions, the diet itself is about 1000-1200 calories per day. This sets up a calorie deficit that will help you lose weight.
Obviously the main benefit to this diet is that you get to eat cookies, enjoy yourself without feeling deprived – and still lose weight.
Another benefit to this diet is that it’s convenient. You don’t have spend hours (which most of us don’t have) buying and/or preparing special diet food. You just grab your cookies and go.
Many people have reported losing a lot of weight on this diet. Some of the testimonials on Dr Siegals website report people losing up to 1 pound per day, although the doctor himself recommends about 10 pounds of fat loss per month.
On the downside however, it’s probably fair to note that this is really only a temporary diet plan. You can’t stay on this plan for life. So once you’ve reached your goal and lost the weight, you’ll probably want to adopt a more sensible, lower calorie eating plan – with the occasional cookie for a snack.
There are other cookie type diets as well however they don’t have the history or proven results of the original Dr Siegal diet. If you’re thinking about trying one of these diet, you may want to do a lot of research before (and definitely talk to your doctor before starting any diet or exercise plan).
So is it for you?
It really depends on what you’re looking for. The cookie diet would probably be best for someone who wants to lose a lot of weight fast, but safely. Someone who doesn’t do well on deprivation-type diets and who likes their sweets. It also would fit someone who has a very busy lifestyle and doesn’t have time to prepare food.

Cooking in America, 1590-1840 $26.36 There are no recipes for what the Indians ate in Colonial times, but this cookbook uses period quotations to detail what and how the foodstuffs were prepared. The bulk of the cookbook is devoted to what the European immigrants cooked and what evolved into American cooking. The first colonists from England brought their foodways to America. The basic foods that Americans of European descent ate changed very little from 1600 to 1840. While the major basic foods remained the same, their part in the total diet changed. Americans at the end of the period ate far more beef and chicken than did the first colonists. They used more milk, butter and cream. They also ate more wheat in the form of breads, cakes, cookies, crackers and cereals. The same was true with fruits. Over time the more exotic vegetables like broccoli, cauliflower, artichokes, and numerous root vegetables including both sweet and white potatoes became common vegetables. By the end of this period, many Americans were even eating foods like tomatoes, okra, and sesame, which were unknown to their ancestors. In addition, Americans, like their relatives in Europe, incorporated coffee, tea, and chocolate into their diets as well as more sugar. Along with them came new customs, such as tea time, and, for men, socializing at coffeehouses. Also, distilled beverages, particularly rum, which was often made into a punch with citrus juices, were increasingly used. Basic cooking technology also remained the same throughout the period, and the cookbook gives a sense of how meals were prepared. The open hearth provided the major heat source. As time passed, though, more and more people could afford to have wood-fired brick ovens in theirhomes. Although the recipes presented here from the first century of colonization come from cookbooks written for people of upper status, by the end of the time period, literacy rates were much higher among men and women. European and American authors published numerous cookbooks that were |

The Food Matters Cookbook: 500 Revolutionary Recipes for Better Living $35 From the award-winning champion of conscious eating and author of the bestselling Food Matters comes The Food Matters Cookbook, offering the most comprehensive and straightforward ideas yet for cooking easy, delicious foods that are as good for you as they are for the planet. The Food Matters Cookbook is the essential encyclopedia and guidebook to responsible eating, with more than 500 recipes that capture Bittman s typically relaxed approach to everything in the kitchen. There is no finger-wagging here, just a no-nonsense and highly flexible case for eating more plants while cutting back on animal products, processed food, and of course junk. But for Bittman, flipping the ratio of your diet to something more virtuous and better for your body doesn t involve avoiding any foods indeed, there is no sacrifice here. Since his own health prompted him to change his diet, Bittman has perfected cooking tasty, creative, and forward-thinking dishes based on vegetables, fruits, and whole grains. Many sound downright decadent: Pasta with Asparagus, Bacon, and Egg; Stuffed Pizza with Broccoli, White Beans, and Sausage; or Roasted Butternut Chowder with Apples and Bacon, for example. There are vegetarian recipes, too, and they have flair without being complicated recipes like Beet Tartare, Lentil Caviar with All the Trimmings, Radish-Walnut Tea Sandwiches, and Succotash Salad. Bittman is a firm believer in snacking, but in the right way. Instead of packaged cookies or greasy chips, Bittman suggests Seasoned Popcorn with Grated Parmesan or Fruit and Cereal Bites. Nor does he skimp on desserts; |

The Healthy Jewish Cookbook $5.42 Traditionally associated with the heavy, fat-laden foods of Europe — deep-fried latkes, chicken fat, and achingly sweet desserts — Jewish food is, in fact, far more varied. Jews who migrated to other parts of the world developed cuisines unique to their new countries, yet still flavored with the tastes of the Middle East and the strict requirements of Jewish dietary laws. This beautifully illustrated book takes the reader on a fascinating journey around the world, showing how Jewish cookery adapted and why it offers so many health benefits. There is the light, flavorful Mediterranean diet of Greek Jews and the Moorish-influenced food of the Jews expelled from Spain in 1492, both of which are rich in natural antioxidants, as well as the grain-based dishes of North Africa and the fragrant salads of the Middle East. With recipes like Egg and Onion with Cilantro, Nutty Spinach with Raisins, Schmaltz Herrings, Roast Duck with Cherries, and Ginger Hazelnut Cookies, this cookbook is a treasure trove of delicious, nutritious recipes for meat-eaters and vegetarians alike. |
