Picking the right outfit to your Christmas/New Year’s party by Uketo myshero
Picking an ideal outfit to your Christmas/New Year’s party
Fun and festive because they are, the holiday season is stressful. There’s the shopping; the cooking (as well as the eating); the tying of loose ends; as well as the hunt for an ideal party outfit. There’s very good news: there’s little treating the very first three, but every one of the control in the world within the fourth. Planning a knockout ensemble? Think about these three questions first.
What’s the character with the event?
If it’s your office party, keep the edginess low. Yes, you’re off-the-clock, however your coworkers (as well as your boss) can still make judgments that may last into next year’s performance review. If it’s your great-aunt Fanny’s cookie recipe exchange, err to the side of the conservative. Always trust your gut. If you think any doubt about the appropriateness of the you’re wearing, give it the old-fashioned rethink. Go with your instincts.
Am I making an impulse buy?
Everybody knows the pain of “outfit remorse.” Yes, that dress, top or jacket bought first party, later left to taunt us in the back with the closet. Avoid knee-jerk reactions. Should you don’t feel spectacular within the store dressing room, then chances are you won’t feel spectacular later, either, and you’re prone to regret purchasing once the white lights, ornament exchanges and champagne are last year’s memories. Many of us do not buy clothes with different requirement for just one occasion, so think ahead. Do you want to use it again? Is it fitted to other occasions?
What’s already within my closet?
Don’t fall prey to the notion that you must reinvent your wardrobe. Invest in a simple black dress wear or classic skirt or pants; these assists you well year after year. Should you curently have the “little black dress,” congratulations, and build on that timeless staple. Dress it with accessories that make an announcement: dramatic earrings that brighten that person and eyes (try some of this year’s feathers for really drama); a distinctive handbag; or even a pair of high-heeled pumps with an energizing pop of color. Should you already have the classic skirt or pants, dress those track of a beaded or metallic top, wrap or jacket. Even slight departures in makeup or nails can behave as accessories in themselves; when the party invitation lists “festive” since the attire, it’s the holidays! You’re within your rights to be exactly that.
Remember, most guests on the party don’t know very well what you already been on your closet, or that which you bought specifically for this occasion, or at what price. Shop smart, look wonderful, stick out, and, you should, have some fun!

The Cracker Kitchen: A Cookbook in Celebration of Cornbread-Fed, Down Home Family Stories and Cuisine By Janis Owens, Introduction by Pat Conroy $16.99 Though our roots are in the Colonial South, we Crackers are essentially just another American fusion culture, and our table and our stories are constantly expanding — nearly as fast as our waistlines. We aren’t ashamed of either, and we’re always delighted with the prospect of company: someone to feed and make laugh, to listen to our hundred thousand stories of food and family and our long American past.
Crackers, rednecks, hillbillies, and country boys have long been the brunt of many jokes, yet this old Southern culture is a rich and vibrant part of Amer-ican history. In The Cracker Kitchen, Janis Owens traces the root of the word Cracker back to its origins in Shakespeare’s Elizabethan England — when it meant braggart or big shot — through its proliferation in America, where it became a derogatory term to describe poor and working-class Southerners. This compelling anthropological exploration peels back the historic misconceptions connected with the word to reveal a breed of proud, fiercely independent Americans with a deep love of their families, their country, their stories, and, most important, their food.
With 150 recipes from over twenty different seasonal menus, The Cracker Kitchen offers a full year’s worth of eating and rejoicing: from spring’s Easter Dinner — which includes recipes for Easter Ham, Green Bean Bundles, and, of course, Cracklin’ Cornbread — to summer’s Fish Frys, fall’s Tailgate Parties, and winter’s In Celebration of Soul, honoring Martin Luther King, Jr.
Recounted in Owens’s delightful and hilarious voice, the family legends accompanying each of these menus leap off the page. We meet Uncle Kelly, the Prince of the Funny Funeral Story, who has family and friends howling with laughter at otherwise solemn occasions. We spend a morning with Janis and her friends at a Christmas Cookie Brunch as they bake delectable gifts for everyone on their holiday lists. And Janis’s own father donates his famous fundam |
